Euro hovers near three-month highs against British Pound despite weak German data

The Euro (EUR) held virtually unchanged, hovering just under a three-month peak against the British Pound (GBP) on Friday, brushing off gloomy consumer sentiment figures out of Germany published earlier in the session. Trading above the 0.8600 threshold after touching a peak of 0.8610, the EUR/GBP cross was poised to finish the week with a 0.37% gain.

Analysts at Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH) pointed out a widening gap between market projections and their own outlook for monetary policy at the Bank of England. “The swaps curve continues to imply about 100bps of BoE rate hikes in the next twelve months to 4.75%,” BBH experts noted, adding that “the BoE may not need to tighten as much as markets expect” because “the UK economy is…”
